I've just bought some magnesium supplement capsules that are HUGE...2.5cm long. I will never be able to swallow them...can I empty the contents into my food? They are supposed to be taken after a meal.

If you can't swallow them....you have little option.......yes...empty them.
At bedtime I take some medication, usually about 12-15 tablets of various sizes. I put them all in my mouth, fill my mouth with water and then swallow the water. You won't even know that you are taking your huge tablet if you try it that way'

Getting 2.5mg of Prednisolone down Frankie's throat isn't quite as simple, but it can be done. Little suspicious barsteward that he is sometimes spits it out from the treat that it is hidden in. But I will not be out-witted by a pesky little moggie.

I bet you swallow bigger pieces of food.
I take calmagzinc tablets that are like housebricks. I take them with a mouthful of chewed food, not water and they go down easily. It sounds disgusting but you do what works. In hospitals, people who have trouble with tablets are given them with yoghurt or jam or custardy pudding which works too.
wolf, I could NEVER do your mouthful of tablets and swill of water thing...just couldn't.

I take 8 in the morning, that's the only way to do it for me!
I do what wolf does, all the tablets at once (except the one I had to take before the meal) with a swig of water. So did my mother before me.
I'm the worlds worst gagger when it comes to tablets of any shape or size .
A friend told me take them with a fizzy drink .I use fizzy water and down they go !
Head down, chin on your chest when you swallow, after the first time you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. :-)
errm no douglas, I won't. instead there will be tablets and water all over the floor.
Okay, ....and keep your mouth closed till they're swallowed.

I've often wondered why so many labels state the bleedin obvious. :-P
I bought a bottle of vitamin B tablets from a health store. When I opened it I saw the tablets were so big that they might have been designed for horses.
They also turned the urine bright green.
I'm the same as Shaney. Luckily I only have to take tablets on rare occasions. I do it in the bathroom in case I bring it back up.

It must be psychological because as Hopkirk says we swallow larger amounts of food.
that wasn't what I meant Douglas, I meant that there would be uncontrollable projectile vomiting. The teacher at school who stood too close in front of me and told me that "Of course I could swallow the cabbage" learned that!
Personally, id never open a capsule (at work) theyre in a capsule for a reason.

What abt a spoonfull of yoghurt with them? I struggle too unless its capsules or coated x
About70 years ago, my uncle Seth was on the pioneer penicillin programme.

it passed through the body, and was recovered somehow, and he had to swallow some sort of gigantic capsules

he made a joke of the horrible process, and I didn't realise.
