Meeting New People
24 Answers
My mum moved to York a year ago and she's struggling to make new friends and meet people. She's only 60 years old and single but has no real hobbies and has become a bit set on her ways. She didn't want to move but ill health made it necessary.
I've signed her up to local cinemas and libraries and suggested short courses etc to try and get her to meet people but to no avail.
She wants to meet people but I think has got so used to spending time alone.
Any ideas of any groups/clubs/websites etc that I can suggest to her? I think once she meets someone it will spur her on

to some extent, know the problem but very different circumstances..... anybody from the next generation on (my gen as I am the same age as her) that you can encourage them to take out for lunch (or breakfast)?
For example, we have a couple of cafés here in Truro that are are great for mingling and networking.....I have just gained a commission off one contact for a drawing that way, a really nice guy who wants to get the drawing and prints of the family house, an old Cornish long-house - in which his daughter is now installed, as a pressie for her!
