/// When asked which historical period she would most like to live in, Alice Sabatini, from Lazio in Rome, paused for a moment before replying '1942' - one of the bloodiest and darkest years in Italian history under the Mussolini dictatorship. ///

This young woman was asked the question, and she gave her answer, why was it wrong for her to suggest "during WW2"?

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I suppose there is a romantic notion of everybody being in the same boat, a sense of community, looking out for each other.
I see nothing wrong with it.

The young lady is a teenager, whose only experience of the war is what she has read - so the concept of experiencing it provides a facile answer to a facile question.

A fuss about nothing at all - again!
I’m utterly baffled by the Daily Mail’s use of ‘embarrassing gaffe’ and ‘misguided’ – apart from, of course, it’s the Daily Mail.
I won't say I would have liked to have lived during WWII, but heck, how many times from the generation who did live through it have those who did not been told that we "have no idea what it was like"? What better why to know than to have experienced it for yourself?

Same could go for any period, of course. As it happens, I'm quite happy living in this one.

Exactly!

It's unlikely that the young lady in question is even familiar with the Mail's archaic terms like 'gaffe' - which utterly reeks of its Middle England readership.

This is blowing up something out of nothing - the young lady was asked a stupid question in a beauty contest - it's hardly the UN is it?
LOL......why don't these Beauty pageant aspirants stick to tight silky bathing costumes and high heeled shoes.

She was the WINNER, I just wonder how the loser would answer?
You can be fascinated by that period without a desire to live through it, surely.
Im with Sqad, if we still have "Beauty pageants" lets keep it superficial and admire their physical attributes.
I think the Daily Mail would prefer her to avoid questions about historical periods and say she’d like to stay at home knitting doilies as royal souvenirs.
Oh, if only Diana were still alive.
I have always fancied going back in time, to spend a couple of weeks in Ancient Rome. Its my favourite time in history. Having explored Pompeii on a couple of occasions, I think it would fascinating to experience the lifestyle first hand.

Well, not in AD 79 of course !
Edwardian times,,,and rich.
The early 60s and rich.
I'm thinking I would rather like to revert to Italy in 1942......

Yes and so nice being a woman it would seem.

Late 40s early 50s so I could miss out the mistakes I made during that period.

From the DM.
This is the moment a peckish bird swallowed an 18-inch long fish in one go after spending 10 minutes to line it up perfectly.

The determined double-crested cormorant took its time manoeuvring the 2ft-long alligator gar

(Grows fast does the alligator gar)

I'd like to shadow Jesus for a couple of months, just to comfirm the baloney surrounding him.

Wow! how you have read every word in your attempt at having a go at the Daily Mail, but it's a wonder how you happened to miss this bit,

/// Pageant judge, Vladimir Luxuria, a transgender actress and politician, called for understanding, saying: 'Try to imagine the emotions of a young woman who had all the spotlight on her: she panicked.' ///

Absolutely disgusting of the Daily Mail, why the need to report the judge's sexuality? Tut, Tut, Tut.

Fancy a trip to the Colosseum in those times mikey?

In the audience or in the arena?

As she won, surely they could lay on a Short Break in Syria as part of her Prize?
lol AOG !

Actually, I fancy myself in a toga, recumbent on sofa, being entertained by the witty talk of Cicero !
