My wife worked as secretary/PA to a General Manager for several years and then got a job as a secretary/data input person in an Accounts Section of a holding Company. At the age of 58 she was made redundant, so went temping to take her through to retirement. An early placing was with a firm of solicitors; they liked her so much they pleaded with her to stay with them and agreed to her terms of a 3-day week and the whole of June off for holiday.
You couls always try temping as a way to get experience and get your foot in the door.
