Plantar Fasciitis - Any Advice Squad?

A recent thread about heel pain alerted me to this. This condition appears to relate to heel pain. I have had the sypmtoms for the last month or so but not in the heel. The pain starts in the right foot pad (plantar) behind the second toe and spreads along the outside of the foot towards the heel. It is painful to walk and is affecting my gait. I have Parkinsons on this side. I can see the Parkinsons nurse any time I want but the two conditions appear to be unrelated. I am otherwise reasonably active for a person my age. Should I see my GP? What could the experts do? Websites say it gets better on its own in a year. In the meantime I am hobbling around like an old man!

Hi Jonny.....your problem doesn't sound like Plantar fasciitis at all, more like a condition known as Morton's metatarsalgia.

Google it and if it seems a reasonable assumption on my part, then see your GP.

Metatarsal pain - I have had this in both feet all summer. You can get met pads which might help (a podiatrist ordered me orthotics and they made the problem worse)

based on my own experience, if you've got plantar fascitis your question isn't so much "Should I see someone?" but "How quickly can I see someone?" So Sqad's advice sounds good to me.

Thanks for the replies. Squad, very interesting reading - one cause of metatarsalgia could be nerve damage due to diabetes. Ive been T1 for 35 years but believe I was undiagnosed for many years before that, possibly from childhood. Im due to see my pump nurse next week and practice DSN in a couple of weeks. Ill get them involved. Control has never been great but HBA1c is normally satisfactory (for a diabetic).

I have had plantar fasciitis twice, the symptoms are very specific and from what you describe I do not believe that is what you have. I also agree with Sqad and with jno, go see your GP or practice nurse and get a diagnosis.
