Easily Removable Home Adjustments
6 Answers
I have been looking in to some more adjustments to help me at home pending going back to OT which I just don't seem to be getting anywhere with at the moment (physio trying to sort it).
I have found you can get bath rails which could help me with the shower over bath (don't dare try the bath any more) which have suction cups on them. I live in private rented accommodation so can't go fastening anything at the moment but do they hold up with the suction cups?
I'm hardly a waif thanks to steroids etc... and lack of mobility and don't want to risk and spend out on something that will just come off the wall if I grab it, possibly causing more injury.
I'm also looking at a shower seat. Can you get ones which won't risk scratching the bottom of the bath? Again, especially as I'm no waif! I also worry about them holding fast when water is on and not slipping. It's quite a narrow bath with shower over.
Thanks for any help.

It has grey suction pads on the bottom and adjustable width things that go from each side of the bath. Before I get in, I run the water and get the seat in the right place, and lean down hard on it to make sure the suction cups have stuck to the bath. I haven't tried rails but whilst sat on the bath seat, I lift my right leg over the edge of the bath onto the floor so I am straddling the side of the bath. This makes it easier to grab the edge of the bath and haul myself over it, so no need for a rail!
Ooh that's something else I need badly, a perch for the kitchen. A chair just doesn't cut it with the height of the counter/sink etc...
I might need to remind physio about OT but apparently there is a back up due to sick leave so might not be for a while.
I rang social services a while ago, who were really unhelpful, whether I just got the wrong person on the phone I don't know.

Here in the USA bath and shower chairs come with rubber feet or rubber caps on the feet. There are long benches that stick half in and half out of a tub so you can sit down and scoot into the bath. Id also suggest seeing if you can get a spray knozzel to attach to your shower head. A long handked reacher would help for pucking things up from floor or shelves.
