I am not sure how much money will be saved here. If the Beeb will still carry on making programs, how much cheaper will it be if its on-line rather than a proper TV channel ?

Thirty million will be saved, it says so in the article so it must be true.

Seems a lot Dougie ....not sure exactly where the extra money is being spent now, in broadcasting the channel normally !

Saved because fewer folk will want to use up their bandwidth/data limit on it and so falling viewers mean they can get rid of it. Helps pay for that daft new logo I guess. Oh well, farewell to Family Guy, and American Dad before going to sleep. (Most were repeats now anyway: had become "spot the new version". A bit like all the other channels/programmes these days.)

OG....I rarely watch BBC 3, but I would miss BBC 4 terribly, if it went the same way.

If memory serves, they are two of the channel's rare successes and are being relocated elsewhere in the network - maybe BBC2 - but do please check on that.

I've never watched BBC3. It seemed to me to contain trivial programmes which make up most of the other channels. I love BBC4 (mostly), particularly the Scandi-dramas. Not so keen on the Top of the Pops and music programmes, though. I never understood why BBC felt the need to have more channels anyway.

I'm sad to see BBC3 go, it was a channel I often watched (loved Don't Tell the Bride). Could have got rid of BBC4 for me !

The TV transmitters used by the BBC are owned by Arqiva, with the BBC (and others) having to pay hefty fees to use them. I assume that no longer having to pay such fees to transmit BBC Three will account for quite a large part of the savings.
