But explaining things properly and checking on kids is the responsibility of parents or guardians. I see this as a way to have a go at those who have had a family tragedy and a chance of a cheap shot at those who believe that there is more to existence than the physical, to boot.
I have known many people, children included, who have been sustained and comforted by the thought of an afterlife whilst coping with a bereavement.
I have seen a very old man who was dying of cancer looking forward to seeing his long dead wife again. The comfort that gave him was beyond anything drugs could have given him.

No, this is not the result of religion.
This is the result of a tragic little girl living with grief she could could handle.
Christian families telling children that 'Daddy is in heaven ... ' is a standard way to help children too young to understand, to assimilate loss.
So, this is not the result of religion, and the poor family are suffering enough, without the righteous anger of total strangers being heaped on their heads at this time of bottomless loss.

hc4361 - //How would she have reacted if she'd been told something different.
Daddy's dead, gone, finished. You'll never see him again.//
That is an extreme approach, which no sensible adult would use.
Millions of people soften the blow of death to a child with the notion of angels and heaven, I will probably do it with my grandchildren when their great-grandparents die - the family are all Catholic except me and one son-in-law.
You can never legislate for grief, and what it will do - and hanging the blame on religion is a knee-jerk reaction which helps no-one.

Zacs-Master ///Yeah, and these people have a vote! Hence Donald Trump and Nigel Farage's popularity.
And before anyone says this example of religious brainwashing has nothing to do with politics......it's an example of the stupidity of a lot of voters.///
Sorry for going off topic but I can't let that go.
Just who do you think you are?
