While (ironically) visiting my daughter 3 weeks ago I was walking quickly past a door and a ring on my right hand somehow caught on the handle and my little finger snapped backwards. It was really painful. Next morning it was sticking out to the right and still in pain. Ive broken this exact finger as a teenager and all the hospital did was strap it to the next finger so that's what I did. 10 days later and still sticking out so went to doctor who sent me for X-ray. When I got there they wouldn't tell me result and said they would send it to doctor in 10 days time which I thought was mad. Anyway yesterday I had missed call from doctor and when I called back they said my results were in but wouldn't tell me over the phone, even though they give blood results on the phone. They asked me to make an appointment for next week to come in and get them which just seems ridiculous. So it's been 3 weeks, I still don't know if it's broken and it still really hurts and I can't straighten it. Is it normal to let m wait this long and not it affect it healing if it is in fact broken?
I am sorry but I cannot help.
Why do NHS investigations take so long to get back to the patient?
I have no idea. Why do them if nobody other than the patient , is interested in the results?
Is it broken? Is it Not. Is it stable? Is it not?
You are correct, the treatment will have an effect on the healing........
I think the '10 days later and its still sticking out' so went to speak to doctor is your problem. If you had gone to A&E when it happened (which is exactly what this is for) you would have been x rayed and treated appropriately. Does your GP not do Phone consultations? Cold you not ask the surgery if the doctor can call you and set your mind at rest.
So it's OK for you to wait 10 days before doing anything, but when they do it's unacceptable ?
I sympathise Smow, but you know what they say "what goes around, comes around".
How far from the surgery are you - could you not go down there and demand the results (their reluctance over the 'phone is understandable, scams and frauds abound in this medium).
I have finally got X Ray results and they say finger isn't broken but no idea why it is still so painful and sitting awkwardly. The only thing that is helping is to strap it to adjacent finger for support and surgery have told me to book an app for next week to see doc again and see what they suggest
