I have been listening to some favourite Palm Sunday hymns. Not for the first time my mind wandered and (with respect, not cynicism) I wondered if the world would have been a kinder place had Mary born a daughter?

Would the world be a kinder place if God had been invented as a woman?

Yes, "what if`s" are pointless, still I do wonder! And best to laugh rather than groan at the world I suppose. Have a lovely day.
Would I have to go to the shoe shop every Sunday. ;-(
I suspect if she'd had a girl we'd never have heard of any of them, nor Christianity.
Perhaps it would have become 'Christine-ity'? :o)
But I agree with Prudie, if that *had* been the case, we'd have been taught to follow a different prophet.
I suspect Prudie is right...
As long as she didn't start smiting everybody on a monthly basis!!
God probably was a female originally; the first deity seems to have been the earth mother, in charge of things like fertility. She was gradually displaced by male gods, generally war gods. But her status seems to have lingered on in later goddesses like Diana, Isis and Astarte, and ultimately Mary too.

It appears she only had sons, though, Jesus and James.

I would imagine Balthazar, Gaspar, and Melchior would have turned the air blue with expletives and who could blame them ... Travelling all that way bearing excellent gifts only to discover Mary has a bloody girl!
//It appears she only had sons, though, Jesus and James. //

Jesus had four brothers, James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas, and two sisters - unnamed.
Do you know, Queen....I have never wondered that.....I know I'd be told to stop wondering if I had asked this as a child.....God chose for Mary to have a boy....that's all you need to know!

But the....what if she'd had a girl.....has given me lots to think around now......interesting...x
