Why can you only use this cream for five days? It's very good for joints.

No idea.
Usual reasons for time limits on these things are:

* they can be diuretics
* they can do something to your stomach creating stomach ulcers, after prolonged usage
* they can be in some way addictive

So, these may not be the reasons, but they're often the reasons for this kind of limit, sometimes.
Ab Editor.......***.
Stomach ulcers from rubbing creams into the skin.
Addictive? diuretics?
Please, the standard of answers in this section is lower than i have ever seen it.
I think it must be the Diclofenac content, Doctors are very twitchy about that lately, just checked my pack and it says consult GP if no improvement after 7 days.

I have used it over a longer time frame than that myself.
Be kind Sqad. I think the Ed was talking in general terms. I have been told that I should not take Ibuprofen for more than three days in a row!
Jackdaw........the question is about Voltarol CREAM!
Does it say this on the tube/packet instructions?
Pack (mine)

//Do not use Voltarol Emulgel P for more than 7 days, unless longer treatment is recommended by a doctor.//
Hi Squad,

I was talking in general terms - however - I am repeating what I have been told by pharmacists when buying painkiller gels, which you rub on your skin.

As JD pointed out, I carefully couched it in generalisations - and with caveats that this may not be the correct answer.

Feel free to correct me, if it turns out you do know :)
The addictive relates to warnings you receive on painkillers like co codamol - to clarify.

My doctor prescribed it for my plantar fasciitis recently and didn't put a time limit on it, 'use until it feels better' was the general message. If[pain is particularly bad I take an ibuprofen tablet instead of rubbing in the voltarol.
O/H has used it,not help much after a while
See 4.4 Looks like they can`t exclude the possibility of side affects when used long term and by putting a time limit on use without a doctor`s advice, they can avoid liabilityhttps://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medicine/19985
