Morning all

I ruptured the tendon about 5 weeks ago, I spent 4 weeks in a cast and I'm now into week 2 of an Airboot. My foot and ankle is still quite swollen and it looks awful, is this normal? I did think it might have subsided a bit by being in the boot. Does the boot make it swollen?

It's all very annoying and completely aggravating me now.

I don't know but I injured my foot about 10 years ago and it's still swollen!

Don't say that. Is it permanently swollen?
Swelling is probably due to tissue damage and bleeding which is taking it's time to resolve and is not uncommon to last a few weeks, if not a few months. Just make sure that the swelling isn't red and painful and that you do not have a temperature.
Yep....it doesn't hurt and actually looks okay until you compare it to the other foot.

Did I not show you? I usually show people when I'm wearing sandals :-)

I tripped up a kirb on a night out in Chester. Couldn't get a taxi and ended up having to walk 5 miles back to the B&B. Next morning getting reading for the wedding we were attending I couldn't get my shoe on! Luckily the wedding was a casual affair and I got away with carrying my shoes....

Thanks Sqad. It's not painful or red, just a bit of bruising that's starting to fade around one side. It looks like it belong to a sasquatch. I wear the boot in bed, would it be worth keeping the leg elevated whilst sleeping, if possible?

Lol, no Ummmm you didn't show me. How do you buy shoes? Or do you wear flipflops most of the time?
\\\would it be worth keeping the leg elevated whilst sleeping, i\\\

A good idea.

Thanks :)
Shoes are okay usually. Most the time I'm in sensible shoes, flip flops, pumps, trainers. Going out shoes I have little grip things I put in my smaller foot. I rarely go anywhere I need to dress up for though.

I hope it goes down a bit before the boot comes off cos at the moment I would struggle to have shoes to fit. Doubt even my trainers would be suitable :(
I just bought some cheap pumps from Primark. I used to be a size 4, now I buy a size 5 and do up the laces tighter on the smaller foot.

Are you in pain?
Question Author
Not a lot of pain, just a bit achey. Though my actual heel is hurting a bit during the last couple of nights, hopefully it's where it's knitting back together.
Question Author
Well, I elevated my foot (above heart) all night and hey presto, most of the swelling was gone this morning. My foot looked nearly normal.
