Staying in a lovely hotel for a few days. In the restaurant tonight there was quite a commotion at the other end of the room when someone appeared to choke on his meal. Immediately a lady at the table opposite to us jumped up, discarded her napkin, threw off her high-heels and raced to help. It was as if she was on auto-pilot. Fortunately she saved his life. I was so impressed. Must feel brilliant to know that you have saved a life.

She obviously knew how to do the Heimlich Manoeuvre.Well done to her.
If the Heimlich Manoeuvre was used, then I trust the patient was advised to go to hospital to check that the manoeuvre did not cause damage to any internal organs.

People have died as a result of being subject to the manoeuvre, thinking all was now OK with the blockage removed, but unbeknown to them internal damage subsequently led to their death.
Did you know that Heimlich finally got to perform this aged 96 in a retirement home last month!

I had a choking incident in September 2013. Fortunately there were 4 Doctors at the table, one of whom certainly saved my life.

First action is back slaps these days followed by abdominal thrusts.
