Was watching TV about an hour ago when out of the blue my heart started racing like mad, I felt tingly and hot all over, and I honestly thought I was having a heart attack. Mr Smow was upstairs and I felt so strange that I couldn't even call out to him. He came down five mins later and I was in tears and he said what on earth is wrong? Have no idea what happened but just for five mins I really thought that was it- so bizarre.

Sounds like it could be a panic attack. Try not to worry about it. No harm done. Although I know how frightening it is at the time.
Sounds like a panic attack. Horrible things, lots of us suffer and not that easy to overcome but not life threatening.

Have never had one in my life if that's what it was clover X

Prudie why would I have a panic attack just watching TV ? I don't understand x
i think people often get their first one in a perfectly ordinary situation, at the hairdressers, on the bus, on the sofa! You've been through some stress lately haven't you?
Question Author
Yes that's true, but I was perfectly relaxed on the sofa. Seriously it really scared me.
i had one a year ago, very scarey indeed!
Question Author
Glad I'm not alone if that's what it was....
Could it be your first hot flush? Sorry don't know your age but that's how I felt when it happened to me.
Question Author
No by sheer coincidence I had a ton of blood tests last week and they checked my hormones. I'm still having regular monthlies and nowhere near the change,
I agree that it could have been a panic attack. You've been through a rather stressful period that seems to be finally settling down. It's not uncommon to have a panic attack after the stress is over, not during it. It used to happen to me all the time.
It happened to me a few months ago when I was cooking a lamb dinner. It was very scary. I was standing over the cooker and suddenly I was incapable of doing anything.
Jeez, NoM, just because the wine bottle was empty....lol......

seriously, not funny though for both of you......
Empty wine bottles are the stuff of nightmares, DT;)
It's very frightening isn't it Smowball? I used to get them quite a lot. You think you're quite relaxed then suddenly it hits you. My doctor said when stressed or anxious, even if you think you've buried it, these feelings of panic will eventually rise to the top if not dealt with properly. They will break through. Have a chat with your doctor, who will explain things to you and tips on how to deal with them. Like someone else mentioned, they will not kill you and will pass.

Ok I feel a bit better after talking to you lovely lot but seriously I was terrified
Smow, I've had a lot lately owing to losing my mum. Anything can set them off. I had one last week and haven't a clue why! But everyone here is great - a lot of mine happen through the night and even then there has always been someone around to talk to. I recently tried 'grounding' 3 times to keep calm. 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell and 1 you can taste. Sometimes I feel I have to get out the room I'm in and come back. but if you need us you know where we are to help xx
Question Author
Oh bless you my lovely, if this was a panic attack then I'm a bit baffled as its come from nowhere
But that's the nature of panic attacks...they just zoom in,and are then hone (the worst of it) minutes later. It's a bit like having the rug pulled out from under you.
...are then *gone*...
