Can't argue with that DD. More nonsense.
Dick...for a change, I am with you 100% here !

This is an American import. Imported as a money-making ploy by the likes of ASDA ( especially after its take-over by Walmart) All it is doing is to boost China's profits.

I have been in the States many times, staying with friends at this time of year.

There is NEVER trick or treating done on any other night, other then this evening. And even this evening, it is tightly controlled. It starts at 18:00 and finishes promptly at 20:00. There are no parties held on any other night.

20 years ago, I used to bring back Halloween paraphernalia, for my British friends and their kids, because it was unobtainable over here.
It's a bit of fun - and the kids like it. What a bunch of killjoys!
Less is more.
Halloween is just one day, today!
It doesn't bother me but I don't get kids knocking for days on end and I don't have young children. It's an excuse for little ones to dress up and go to little parties.
I don't suppose it helps the discussion to say that I was planning tonight's Halloween costume about a day after Halloween last year...
I think the one in Derry lasts for three days and is the biggest one in Europe, It has also been voted as the best by America of all places.
Last year three T & T's knocked on my door and after contributing to their dentists work load I was surprised by them singing a carol, when asked why they said it saved coming back in December. Still haven't worked out whether it was three enterprising youngsters or laziness.

its a bit of fun for 1 night yes but not 1 week ! especially when you have a kid wanting a different outfit every other day, plus she has been going on about halloween for last month, yestday i took her to concert and fancy dress, tonight she wants to go to another partie , 2 days ago she was at a massive firework display and party .....now we have christmas next month and ive allready started forking out for that .

but the point i was making or asking is why so long, as i said when i was a kid it was no big deal and it was 1 night only .
The reason the parties get spread out a bit is so everyone can go to everyone else's do - you don't have to give in to pester power for a multitude of outfits either.

A bit of fun is fine, we never did much at Halloween but did on Bonfire night.
dieseldick, when she asks for all the different outfits, you could always say 'no'. Just an idea.
Exactly, it's the first lesson to teach them, makes life easier in the long run for all.
One outfit is enough.

///now we have christmas next month///

and there was me thinking it was in December, thanks for the Heads Up DD!
Forgot to put the clocks back maybe?
It doesn't mean it's right just because children like it. I know some old people who are really frightened just at the thought of it! As Mikey said it's an American import, just like these silly 'graduation' ceremonies for little children. Children and some of their silly parent don't know any better!
Leaping out and scaring old folk or demanding treats/money with menaces is not good - but young children carving pumpkins and dressing up for parties with ghost stories is no harm.

The recent spate of Horrific Clowns running around has been mainly older teens and adults - crazy ( and I know not Halloween linked).
That's a bit harsh!
I don't mind it, I think it only needs one day though. I have just had a group of young kids trick or treating. They came together and had an adult with them.
It's because it happens to fall on a Monday this year, quite understandable that many of the parties took place over the weekend. I mean it's a school night!! (and it often falls in half-term).
