It appears my doctors notes have been lost since before 2001, how can this be ?
Is there any where I can try and retrieve them ?
As to an earlier thread of mine I am trying to trace my laser treatment notes, and the doctors would have had them . Any ideas ?

NHS authority I would imagine

look here for contact details wherever you are
I feel sure your GP is able to obtain details from the Clinic /Hospital where the Laser treatment was performed.

As I said I have contacted my doctor who says they have no records before Sept 2001 I have moved around alot x
but central computer records are held..go through the NHS web site and contact whichever authority covers your area...
It is going to be very difficult to trace records prior to 2001.

The following thread indicates that GPs Do Not need to keep records beyond ten years and Hospitals for only eight years.:-

I have tried doctors past and present but they all say they cant help me
um no well um I think they are lost - as in gone
rather than they dont know where they are

if a GP treated you - then he should have them or know where they are
and if was a hospital then the hospital consultant you were 'under' should have them

andif they dont - then - then they're gone !

[ we did an audit at the local NHS facility and found 20% of the anaesthetic sheets ( where the anaesthetist keeps details of your anaesthetic ) had gone walkies within three months]
