The manufacturer. Glucophage is the brand name, metformin is the generic name.

A brand name ending with phage ? I bet the Marketing department spent all coffee break coming up with that one. Sounds like one is swallowing viruses trying to catch something nasty !

The ending "phage", comes from the Greek and means "devourer". So the name means "sugar-devourer". Nothing to do with viruses.

No Tinkerbell "Metformin" is basically the drug contained in the medication, "Glucophage" is the name it is sold under. The same drug, any differences with the dose etc would be written on the package.
