A while back I posted that I had a ridiculously dry mouth on waking up; like, no saliva whatsoever in my mouth. At that time I had a bit of a cold so put it down to that. But I still have it. It feels like a coating on the inside of my mouth- slightly chalky and like I have to keep swallowing. Water doesn't seem to help but a very strong throat sweet does temporarily. I've had this for a couple of months. I don't actually feel thirsty, particularly. I hope it's not diabetes- is that an actual thirst that you feel or just lack of saliva?
Diabetes would give you an actual thirst. If you had a cold you might have some residual blocking of the sinuses or inflammation in the nasal passages that would make breathing through your nose difficult which is why you subconciously breathe through your mouth in your sleep. I certainly wouldn`t bother a GP about it at this stage.
That was my thought, I figured it would pass but it hasn't. I'll see how it goes. I wonder what the chalky thing on the inside of my cheeks/ roof of mouth is?
You could have a saliva stone blocking one of the saliva glands. Have you any pain under your jaw or in front of your ear? Try eating sherbet lemons to get the saliva flowing or something very sour.
I had the same for a few months and it simply went away by own accord.
This sounds crazy , but it happened a couple of years running and was just after I had flu jab. Probably pure coincidence ?
Interesting. I haven't had the flu jab but I have had flu and colds and coughs for what seems like about 4 months. Finally gone now but still this weird dry throat thing.
