Behind A Pub Bar

I was staying with friends over the Christmas period and went with then to their local pub, after about half an hour the woman behind the bar started to eat several sausage rolls and mince pies once eaten she then proceeded to put every finger of her right hand into her mouth to suck off the residue of the food, after this without washing her hands she was picking up glasses to serve customers drinks, I asked her if she should be eating behind the bar and her response was, "I'm the landlady and can do what I like"
Surely there must be some kind of environmental health law about eating behind a licenced bar but if there is I can't find it, does anybody know?

I must admit I always used to eat behind the bar often because I'd worked 10 hours straight without a break

As islay says, sometimes you have to grab sustainance 'on the hoof', it's the only way.
Maybe better you don't frequent that establishment in the future.....

That wouldn't enter my head to be concerned about.

What does turn my stomach, is when a customer at work (I work on a till) put their cards/money in their mouth first before handing it over to me. I won't touch until they've wiped it before passing it, often i've had to ask them to do that.

as a retired ex caterer and barman i can say that what the "landlady" did was completely unacceptable. she has broken the law on many fronts.
it is against the law to consume food or alcoholic drink behind the bar.
after food and toilet breaks a staffer HAS to wash their hands thoroughly.
on the point of whether the actions help to give immunity who knows what infections or diseases the amateurish, selfish "landlady" could have passed on, besides it looks terrible!

Where I used to work (on site staff off 4,000 in office building), I used the men's facilities nearest to staff canteen and watched one of the catering crew leave toilet cubicle and head straight for the toilet exit. Yuk !
I hasten to add I did not use the onsite catering facility.
Anyway after a few years I got to know one of the girls who worked in the catering area (mainly just out of school) and I'm so glad I didn't eat at work lol

I fail to see the difference between someone eating behind a bar and someone eating in front of it.

How about waitresses sipping customer drinks before taking them out to serve to them - and in a 5 star hotel in Dallas.

I had a free night having complained to the manager.
