How Do I Resolve A Dispute With Voadaphone Which Has Now With Debt Collectors.

I run a fun singing group for disabled people and use to use a Vodafone wifi device e as a backup when I had problems with the one I usually use from EE.
Last may I used the device for one evening during the billing period. My normal data usage is 2 to 3 GB per month. The bill for Vodafone for that period was £178 for that monthly period so I cancelled my direct debit with vodafone as I noticed it was due to come out the following day. They said I had used 8GB of data when I queried this excess data I was told the only way that the data usage could be wrong would be a faulty device and I would need to get the device checked by taking it to a Vodafone store, which I did giving them my account details. I have not used it since then although it was repaired.
The device was found to be faulty so I assumed the matter would be resolved. A few weeks later I received a letter from another firm asking for the outstanding amount. I phoned the firm and explained what had happened and the y said no further action would be taken. Still worried about the ongoing saga with Vodafone I phoned them in September and they asked for proof of the repaired device so I emailed them a copy. When I contacted them again they said they had not received the proof of repair and I needed to go to a Vodafone store and send it from there, this was now November. Last week on 6 January I received a final notice dated 15 December with all my the costs of £298 to be paid within 2 weeks. So I phoned Vodafone today and they said they had recieved the proof of repair but the account is now with the debt collectors.
