I have my niece with me for 2 weeks and yesterday I had to take her to the dentist. She had a hole in her tooth. The dentist said the molar was dead and drilled into it to let the puss out and they will fill it on Wednesday. I guess this is down to not good enough dental hygiene?!
Will this effect her other teeth be affected by this? Do baby teeth have nerves? I was devastated holding her hand when she had it done :(

hope she was ok and it hasn't frightened her about going to the dentist x
What's her sugar intake like?

Well no pain really just one time. She seams OK anyway me and a friend went and we played around asking the dentist if we could go 1st like it was a cool thing to do lol. Anyway yeah I think she is alright but will see Wednesday poor little thing :(

ummm she 100% has a sweet tooth there is no doubt about that. I will be reducing it when she is with me and her mum hopefully will too.
It's probably the sweet tooth that caused it rather than poor hygiene.

At 3 sweets should be really limited. I limited my kids sweets and so far none of them have filling (24, 20, 18) I did this because I was allowed to eat sweets and had quite a few fillings quite young.

did you have any of your baby teeth die? I was a bit worried one is dead :( her cheek was really swollen
That sounds more like an abscess. Has she been given antibiotics?

Question Author
the dentist drilled a hole to let the puss out and will disinfect it and cap it Wednesday. We asked about antibiotics and they said she doesn't need them. The hole he drilled seams to have relived her a bit though. I was sure she needed antibiotics too but apparently not.
Has the swelling in her face gone down? Is she complaining of pain?
Question Author
the pain improved as she slept quite well last night (Saturday night was really bad) . I will see about the swelling a bit later today as She has been at school.
sounds like an abscess to me too; I wouldn't swear the sweets had anything to do with it.

Baby teeth are meant to die, though not usually that young; hopefully she'll still get an adult tooth in due course.
My little cousin fell over and damaged his front teeth at about the age of 3 and had to have the front four removed. His big teeth came through at the normal age perfectly.
My younger sister was born with two little yellow teeth. They were really quite creepy! They didn't affect her baby teeth or her adult teeth. Baby teeth do have nerves, but at least she has a second chance with her adult teeth!
