vegetarianism and veganism is something that ive knocked in the past here on AB but ive been doing some intensive research in the past few weeks and am slowly losing my taste for animal products. My only previous experience of vegetarianism was a girlfriend that was in to animal rights in a fanatical sought of way and I loved my beef burger more than her in the end. Beginning to think she was right and I was wrong.

Any experience, stories, views etc.
Thank you.

nailit, I could not give up my bacon and cheese with oatcakes but I do buy 'free range' pigs' bacon, so I do have some principles.

They'll be exhausted by this time of night and have gone to bed

On the contrary Baldric, my ex veggie girlfriend could go all night, exhausted me she did...
Insatiable!
It is, Nailit.

As an aside......do you know any ex coal miners?
I have been a veggie in the past and have a friend who is a vegan, gave up being veggie as I missed bacon butties and my mother roast dinner! I know buy my meat from local farmers and my eggs from a local source.

Cant say that I do Tills, why do you ask?
..........never mind, Nailit. I'll let you get on with your vegitarian/veganism thing.

Islay, I'm curious, did you notice any difference in ur health while you were a 'veggie'? Energy levels etc?
vegetarian! God!

I want to know what fuel to put in a safety lamp. Nailit. That's why I'm asking.

I know I'm missing something here...just don't know what it is??

Something to do with needing meat to do a hard days graft?
Question Author
Sorry Tills, cross posted. No idea what to put in lamps...
No, Nailit. No hidden agenda. I just thought that you might know a couple of retired miners. Just asking for a completely non associated to vegetarianism answer. Just forget I asked. xx
I don't think animal products deserve to be demonised.

There is not enough evidence out there for me to subscribe to the theory that cows' milk is bad for you.

"Organic" almond milk with highly toxic carrageenan on the other hand... I think I'll stick with dairy, ta.

Similarly why snub pure butter for some "healthy" spread which is about 1 molecule away from plastic.

As a fine Doctor once said to me..."If it comes off a farm, eat it. If it was made in a factory, don't touch it."

Tilly, I am 50 yrs of age, the mines around here (as you will know) were shutting as I was a teenager.

Think I'd agree with that 100%
I too agree 100% with NoM. The more processed a food is,the worse it is for us.
I have enough trouble eating more veggies...let alone only veggies. I could never be a vegetarian...it just would not satisfy me.
If you do decide to try it,do a lot of research to make sure you get all the nutrients you need. And try to get that info from an impartial site,as both sides can be zealous and political in their opinions. Also...read the views of those who've been both so you can understand why they may choose one lifestyle over the other.
Excellent advice, Pasta.

Reading the views of someone who has experience life as a meat eater AND a vegetarian will help you make a balanced decision and one that's right for you.
I used to be a pescatarian. Can't say anything about health because I was healthy 13 year old. I started eating meat again when my daughter was a toddler. I eat very little of it though.
