I'd say protein and good fats...have things like cooked chicken or hard boiled eggs for snacking. Base your meals on the same....not too many carby veg (carrots,parsnips,etc) but have leafy greens. Add some good fats like nuts,seeds and avocado. Limit fruit to berries...they are the lowest in sugar.
Diabetes UK has a low carb forum...lots of advice there. It will become easier as your body learns to rely on fat/protein for energy rather than carbs.
