My son needs to apply for an adult passport. (he had a childs passport when he was 14, hes now 21). On the passport website
https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-adult-passport/photos-and-documents-you-must-send
It states that when applying that you must send complete birth certificate and mother or fathers details (birth certificate/passport/passport number). Underneath that it gives details for applicants of immigrants. And then underneath THAT it says
//If you send documents relating to your father, you must also send your parents’ marriage certificate//
I'm not sure if the above ^^ relates to applicants of immigrants or if it means that everyone must provide parents marriage certificate.
Any idea? Thanks

I don't understand that. He's an adult. All I had to provide for my son was my passport number and he had to provide his birth cert.
Phone them - their helpline is normally quite good.
I think you'd be better off getting a form from the PO. The instructions are much more basic.

Ummm, the difference is that you're a mother, Apparently as a father (who would be providing my passport details) they seem to want a marriage cert as well. Ive never been married to his mother.
Are you on his birth certificate?
Question Author
I also don't understand that he already has a passport, albeit a child's, and he has to go through all this rigmaroll again instead of just renewing it??
Question Author
Yes I am ummm.
Honestly, get the form. Half the questions don't need filling in.
Use the Post Office 'check and post' service it costs an extra £10 but it's worth it. The post office staff will go through the application and check everything is OK then send it by expedited delivery. If there is anything wrong they will tell you and correct the information for you.

Think he got a form from the post office, going have a root see if I can find it ;-)
If no joy Ill see if I can find a telephone number to ring.
Question Author
Yes was going do that EDDIE, just reading that in my link has thrown me a bit, its not very clear.
It's not worth it, Eddie, my son used it and had his form sent back. Plus the form is too easy to fill in to justify it.
^ You can even just go to the post office and tell them you want to apply for a passport with their checking service. They will give you a form and fill in there and then with you.
One thing I was not aware of when we filled in the form for my wife's passport is that if your previous passport is one of the old blue ones it does not count as a previous passport and you have to fill in the form as if it is your first passport. That caught us out, we had the form returned. (my wife's old passport had run out in 1982)
This is because the old passports did not have details recorded on computer and they no longer have the records of them!
Question Author
Yes I can do that EDDIE its just that I'm trying to get the appropriate documentation to send, don't understand why they want a marriage cert if the father of the applicant is sending HIS details instead of the mother? Not everyone who applies has married parents or has his mothers documentation.
Question Author
^^that was to ur previous reply EDDIE
... and (as ummmm says) they can get it wrong, with no compensation if they do screw up
Question Author
Found a phone number, will give them a ring...
Surely he isn't applying for a passport, he is just renewing.
