A Hot Weather Warning To Dog Owners
33 Answers
Dog owners are being warned to protect their dogs’ paws from hot pavements, after Blue Cross vets treated a dog for burns. The advice is only to walk your dog first thing in the morning, or last thing at night.

We've bought a small rigid plastic paddling pool for him, one that's for babies and toddlers, and fill it with about four inches of water. He absolutely loves it, it cools his feet, he splashes around as if trying to dig through the bottom, and then lies down in it.
The link below has some more information about keeping dogs cool in this weather. Most of it is just common sense - but some of us don't seem to have much of it.

woofgang, I did;. Dog's paw pads have a thick layer of fatty tissue that insulates the inner foot tissues from extreme temperatures. The pads also offer protection when walking on rough terrain. BUT, dogs that are outside a lot and exposed to rough surfaces have thicker, rougher paw skin; dogs that stay in more and walk on smoother surfaces have softer pads. So why would people who hardly ever take their dog out suddenly start taking them long walks on pavements in the heat?
How do you think all the dogs in southern Europe and beyond are managing?
Whenever the temperature drops below zero or rises to 30 the Brits go into hysterics. Is this the start of the Silly Season? See hereiam's post above for the answer.
