Pregnancy Pain
7 Answers
Hi
I am 5 months Pregnant and I've been in pain from about 6 weeks in my lower abdomen.
I've been to see my midwife and I've seen a consultant also as I had some bleeding too and I was told to take time off work and rest.
I'm due back to work next week and I'm still in pain all day every day, the more I do the more pain I have so I'm doing very little.
The consultant I saw was very dismissive and not particularly helpful or sympathetic. I have a high pain threshold and I the pain is often unbearable.
I suppose I'm wondering if you have experienced something similar? It's been nearly 4 months and no improvement and I don't know what to do.
Thanks GF

Clearly I am not an expert, but the action you have taken above seems to be the correct approach, but the only concern from my inexpert view is the bleeding. This may or not be associated with your pain which is the point of your question.
I know that you are pregnant, but have you taken Paracetamol or Ibuprofen for the pain?

Yes. My midwife said it's ligaments stretching. When the pain intensified they tested me for a water infection...which I had, apparently completely different pain in prenancy. With my daughter they put it down to morning sickness (morning, my backside, all day sickness)
Each pregnancy is different though.

Thanks all, the bleeding has subsided since 'taking it easy' and not being at work.
I have a large fibroid which I assume is causing some of the pain on that side but the consultant feels they are not related.
I've had several ultrasounds which only show baby and fibroids but no explanation for pain.
I know pain during pregnancy is not unusual but I would say this amount of pain is.
I'm not concerned re baby as I know she's okay but treating the pain long term is impossible.
Paracetamol doesn't touch me and codeine is a short term solution.
I guess it's just something I have to put up with, I'm not looking forward to returning to work as I know this will aggravate it further.
Thanks all
