Anxiety, Depression & Pregnancy

My daughter is suffering from anxiety. She sought help from her GP who got her on to an ITalk course (4 sessions) which I think has made her worse. In the two sessions she's had, they have just talked about all the symptoms of anxiety but nothing about how to control it.

She rang me after she had had to walk out of the session, as she had a racing heart, dizziness, shortage of breath, sadness, and a feeling of being useless and she was in tears. It looks like it's going to be during the last session that she might be given any mechanisms to help her control it.

She and her husband are trying for a baby and her GP told her that she can't prescribe antidepressants because of this.

My daughter feels that, as usual, something has come between her and finding a solution for her anxieties. This stranger, that doesn't even exist yet, and might never exist, is stopping her getting medication to help her. She feels, worthless.

Also, the doctor hinted that anybody who was prescribed ADs, would be carefully monitored mentally, if she did become pregnant. Is this right?

Any advice would be gratefully received about if there is, any medication that could be prescribed for her. Thanks.

you can have anti depressants whilst pregnant.
Yes, ALL mothers' mental health is monitored both during pregnancy and afterwards, especially if there is already an identified problem
Difficult one.
It would serve little purpose in this thread to go over the types of antidepressants as basically my post will apply to them ALL.
There is a chance, a small chance that taking AD's during pregnancy. might, just might, affect the unborn with respect to birth defects, but it is very small. My first thought would be to support the view of bednobs, I should, it is informed, but I cannot 100%.
Your daughter should have a talk with her doctor and they should come up with a solution that would be acceptable to both......an informed discussion, but in my opinion, your daughter should have the final say.
