Is the mesh used for vaginal implants the same as that used in hernia repair, and have there been any reported problems. I would imagine there have been thousands of these procedures.
I am anxiously awaiting mine!

Mesh for "vaginal slings" is different from the mesh used for hernias i.e Inguinal and Femoral hernias, of which many types are used but mainly containing propylene. Side effects for these have been reported BUT it is the standard practice for hernia repairs to date and hundreds of thousands are performed each year. SO....either male or female...if you are...

I was a bit confused by your post. You have a male name, but I checked your profile to see if you are male or female. I assume you're waiting for a hernia repair. As far as I know it's the same kind of stuff for both.
If you are young and fit it will be a doddle. If you're older and have other complications it might be a bit more difficult to recover, but not horrendous.

SO....either male or female...if you are to have a hernia repair (rupture)...then worry yea not.

NOW...the main problem is the use of mesh, in vaginal incontinence which is said to have complications of 2-3 % which is acceptable, which now seem to have complication rates of 10-12% ( medical statistics again) and these figures are unacceptable.
The problem with the vaginal sling is that it is surrounded by "important organs" vaginal, bladder, rectum and other pelvic contents which are the focus of complications and this report.
The company deny these figures......and indeed, in my opinion may have a point.

Jason.......don't worry......chalk and cheese.
Sorry, Jason, to butt into your thread.

Sqad, do meshes for vaginal problems go through the cervix or the abdomen?
Clover.........either......depending upon the "whim" of the surgeon.

Transvaginal, usually......cus it is quicker, however, either route may be taken.
Thanks, sqad. Not that I need it any time soon, but I just can't imagine how they do it through the cervix. How do they spread the edges out? Eek, I don't want to think much about it.
Ooh, thanks, sqad. I'm just going to have my breakfast. I shouldn't have looked.
LOL...LOL....some of the instruments look as though they are "laughing".......;-)
I wonder why?

Thanks for replies, and apologies for any confusion over gender in OP. As you correctly surmised, I am of the male persuasion (if that's an acceptable description these days!).
Thanks again Sqad, I am reassured.
