Thermometer Reliability

Our bedroom is not warm. We like it that way. We keep the radiator turned off.

So why does the thermometer read 68ºF? Ok, faulty instrument. Tried another, made sure it was placed near the (cold) window. Same reading. BOUGHT another (a fancy digital max/min one from Amazon). Similar reading.

Took the thermometers outside (no, not to do a Beecham), and they dropped to a 'proper' temperature, i.e. about 50F today in London.

Is there a reliable indoors thermometer? Mainly want it so Mrs B can monitor plants she has growing everywhere.

You bedroom is heated by the room underneath it, rooms adjacent to it and heat from your bodies whilst you are in it.

Groundfloor flat. Hall adjacent also has radiator turned off. Maybe adjacent 'living' room is warmer, with a rad. No bodies in it for some hours pre-taking temperature.

And I can understand a few degrees, but 68 is (to me) a pleasant summer's day!

If could also be heated by the upstairs neighbours. I know that heat rises but when you do the calculations for radiator sizes needed on a new central heating system you allow for heat to travel from any hot room to any colder adjacent room.

If I had three thermometers all reading the same temperature, I'd conclude that WAS the actual temperature.
As to "is there a reliable indoors thermometer?".....well, a thermometer is a thermometer - it doesn't know if it's indoors or outdoors!
I'd place all three of them in a very warm place (above a radiator, say) and see the readings. If all three are still similar....then I'd conclude I had three fairly accurate instruments because they're reading the same at 10C, 20C and 30C (I don't use Fahrenheit).
