Does anyone else think it's ironic that so many of the regular contributors to this sight seem to be of left of centre/ liberal progressive political views, given the owners of this site (a certain daily tabloid style newspaper well known for it's knee-jerk news stories)?

An interesting point Waldo - proof if any were needed that the origins of an internet site have little, if any, connection with the people who visit and express opinions on its pages. Personally, I think, as you do, that The Answerbank reflects the attitudes of its regular visitors, of which we are merely two, and has little or no connection with the political or social stance - what ever they may be, of its financiers. As I understand it, the AB chiefs are employed by the umbrella company, not the individual newspaper, so they could easily be as liberal / progressive as the rest of us.
I'm sure I remember reading that most of the journalists at the Sun were Trots, tankies and other assorted shades of Red Under The Bed even at the height of the newspaper's Thatcher-boosting, union-bashing heyday. And let's face it, any sensible person would be!

I agree with your point Mikewith, but it's not that newspaper! D____ M___!
Daily Mail or Daily Mirror then. I haven't read either in many many years, I dread to think what's in them.

Answerbank appears to be run by a subsidary (Front of Mind) of the Daily Mail and General trust which is a huge organisation extending far beyond the Daily Mail itself into all forms of media including print, broadcast and online. While I personally do not find the editorial tone of the Daily Mail to my liking I don't see why this should prevent me reading or using any of the other products produced by the group, including the ever useful Loot and a whole range of regional newspapers. In a similar way I'm sure that readers of the Sunday Times would generally distance themselves from some of the other papers produced in the very same building as it.

Is it possible that in some small way we are the conscience of that esteemed organ?
I contest the use of the word progressive in this context.
