I went to the doctor and he advised me to do a swab on myself so that the hospital could test whether I had a bacterial infection (sore/painful inside as well) or thrush. Apparently if you can get a mixed infection called vaginosis and you treat the thrush with cream, it will aggravate the bacterial infection, and if you use antibiotics it will aggravate the thrush. I recommend you go to your doctor and get it diagnosed properly. You can do the swab yourself if you feel more comfortable. Womenly problems are really annoying, but I think that you should be advised by your doctor in the first place, you will know the recommended treatment for your problem at the moment and for next time. Also think about any changes you have made, e.g. laundry detergent, soap, even shampoo/conditioner. I hope you feel better soon!
The capsules are brilliant, but take up to 3 days to work in my experience. You should see a doctor if it doesn't work as you've never had thrush before. It IS really painful BTW, you're not abnormal! Use cream as well to soothe it.
BTW, don't spend a fortune on Canesten capsules. Chemists sell generic/own-brand ones which are exactly the same. Tesco does an own-brand one which is much cheaper.
