Did your GP do any other tests?
Question Author
No I don't think so, full bloods and check for arthritis and autoimmune feeling a little down as this has been going on for about 5/6 weeks and its getting worse.
Anything else amiss like bad balance or muscle weakness?
Question Author
no balance problem, but have no strength in hands can finf it hard to open tins/jars. I have had corporal tunnel syndrome but no problem since op I also have a touch of raynaulds now and then but don't think its connected to that?

Forgot to say skins is sore to touch shoulders arms etc, not all over but very sensitive. Missy
can I ask if/when you passed menopause? Joint pain is a part of menopause which isn't often mentioned or acknowledged.

Think am going thru it , last period about 2 yrs but for the pain I struggle to get up from chairs/ bend. missy
Has your GP actually said its due to prior alcohol intake? Diclofenac is an anti inflammatory so if it is post menopausal joint pain then that should help or you might discuss HRT? I had a colleague at work who thought she would have to give up work because of the pain until she started HRT.
Knowone currently knows you better medically than your own GP, missy, so why dont you ask for a triage appointment, for him or her to call you to discuss your symptom and worries....if they think its best they check you out and examine you, they will arrange an appointment to see you.
May I congratulate you, missy, on keeping off the alcohol and staying dry, and send you my best wishes to get this matter resolved.
(We have a retired doctor on site, named Sqad, who hopefully will see this when he next looks in and comment) x

Wolfgang I think the GPs, never get the same one twice, I think they think is from drinking, but am at a loss to what it is. Thank you. Missy. Will look in in the morning. good night
Missymoo, has a doctor said to you "I think your aching joints are a result of your alcohol intake"? and if they have, have you asked them why they think that?
Certainly not enough information here and i am going to make a few suppositions which i hope will not be too wide of the mark.
With what you have described and the association of Carpal Tunnel antigen negative R.ASyndrome, I would assume that you have Rheumatoid Arthritis and probably other related conditions.
You are also taking anti-inflammatories. e.g Diclofenac .
Blood tests for R.A factors were negative.
I have no idea as to yopu alcohol consumption before withdrawal.

This sounds like an acute exacerbation of R.A (flare up) whichis quite common in this disorder even though the blood tests were reported upon as "normal". Antigen neg R.A is well known and recognised.
I cannot see any association between your alcohol withdrawal and your symptoms.
You do not say as to what dosage of Diclenfenac that you are taking and what type.
I assume that it is the immediate release (look on the box) and if so, then 50mgms three or 4 times a day would be a reasonable dose.
These flare ups may last for 2-3 weeks.
As YogiBear said at 21.54....your GP knows you well ( I assume) and may be better placed to give the bigger picture ( if there is a bigger picture).

Good morning Sqad. Thank you for your input much appreciated I have just been put on difloflex 50mg 3 times a day lyrical twice a day and kapake two tabs up to 4 times a day..
I drank about a couple of bottle of wine a night for a good few years , about 7yrs. I don't think its to do with alcohol. I just started difloflex yesterday, this has been going on for about 5wks, I did sleep very slightly better last night and not as sore. Many thanks Missy. if you need info let me know.
Thanks for your reply.
That seems a reasonable pain relief regime......press on and keep us informed.
I also feel this represents an acute flare of seronegative RA. Are your symptoms worse first thing in the morning?
Well done missymoo , giving up the alcohol like that. Keep it up , best wishes and hope all turns out well.
Well done missy. Few folk drank as much alcohol as I did, and I just stopped cold turkey and didn't suffer any problems at all. Isn't it great to not have a hangover every day? :)
Good luck with pains,

Just be careful with Kapake, it contains massive amount of codeine which is also an addictive drug.
Wishing you well
