Blood In Urine

Hi..
last week, all of a sudden I had an urge to wee.. but nothing came out.. I left it for a little while, and tried again, and all I could manage was a little squirt.. I also noticed it was bright red and cloudy. This happened a few times over the evening.. it looked horrible. I went and bought some cranberry juice and drank the litre thinking it was the start of a bladder infection. By the morning I could wee normally, but it was still tainted with blood.. I managed to get a docs app first thing.. she did a sample and said there was still traces of blood in urine so although It was getting better, gave me antibiotics. This has totally gone away now. I rang for my sample results yesterday and they came back as clear from any infection? Is this normal? Should I go back and request more tests.. doc not bothered at all! Many thanks for all your help xxx

I'd take the fact that the doc isn't worried as evidence you're ok. Antibiotics clearing up infection seems normal.

So even though the sample was taken before I started the anti biotics? So the blood was nothing to do with an infection?
I don’t have any other symptoms, so happy with that, just thought it was odd that i was bleeding but no infection!! Thanks for your answers though! Dr google wasn’t helping my hypochondria :-)

That is the time to take the urine sample....BEFORE the antibiotics.

The bleeding is EVERYTHING to do with the infection.

Dr Google and his links also sends ME berserk.

Here I am in all my tubby, pale & middle aged (I'm 44) glory.

I've got a Catheter, Stoma ( colostomy bag ), scars where you can see them, scars where you can't, and hormone implants below my skin.
I have another operation to come, and then radio and/or chemo therapy.

Why am I posting this?

Well, in the summer of 2014 I had blood in my urine. Went to the GP and he said that it was probably just an infection and would clear up.

It did.

However, it wasn't an infection. It was a symptom of Prostate Cancer.

If my GP had simply taken some blood, and sent it off for a PSA test ( the test for prostate cancer...it's NOT a finger up the ass... That comes later! ) then we would have caught this at an early, and much more manageable stage.

There are many symptoms. I urge all the men to spend 5 minutes here

Prostate cancer is becoming more prevalent in 'younger' men. Men our age.

If you have blood in your urine, or any other symptom listed on prostateUK's website, then get a blood PSA test.

Insist upon it.

If I had known earlier, then my treatment and prognosis would have been so different.

As it was, my cancer was free to grow and grow for another 12 months without anyone knowing.

So, there you go.

Sorry to be so serious, but 1 in 8 of you (for that's how many men will get prostate cancer) will bloody thank me one day!

Just drink lots of water. Cranberry juice doesn't help, I've read.

This has happened to me several times, I have a wonky kidney and so bladder infections used to be a common occurrence. Blood in your urine is a sign of an infection, so is the need to wee without actually needing to wee! It's the most awful feeling! Take the full course of antibiotics :-) if it was a severe infection you'd be in a hell of a lot of pain. The fact that the results came back clear probably just means it's a mild infection and so wasn't picked up on their results - again, has happened to me several times (and it's very frustrating). I now take cranberry tablets everyday and (touch wood!) haven't had a water infection in years.
