It's too early for any research to take place.

The restrictions on packaging were never expected to stop existing smokers from continuing to buy tobacco products. The hope was that young people would be less likely to start, so any fall-off in sales would only be gradual over several years. Since the rules have only been in place for less than 10 months, there won't have been much difference yet.

Evidence from Australia though (where standardised packaging as been mandatory for over 6 years) shows a significant decrease in the sale of tobacco products.
