Over the last six weeks or so I have been having really strange almost "out of body" experiences when either dozing off to sleep or waking too early and trying to get back to sleep. It is as if I am fighting to wake up out of it but can't. I get overwhelmingly hot all of a sudden and my mind is mixing all sorts of weird things up. I have also had it when waking in the morning a couple of times lately - but it passes within a minute or so. What could be causing it any ideas?

Sleep paralysis? It's very unnerving...

Oh wow thank you Pixie. Very odd, unsettling experience - scared to sleep now !
It is scary- if that's what it is. I think sleep deprivation doesn't help... but at least you know it will wear off.
I think it is important to realise
you are Not Alone ....
so long as you are aware ( ha!) that other people get it,
the fear should wear off

I have had it on and off for fifty years - worse when I am flu-ey. If it is bad or associated with a flu infection ( you know really bad man-flu) - I lock the doors and wait for it to go away.

Haha. Well Peter I have suffered with blocked sinuses for years now - not as bad as a man cold though! Also taking de-congestants any time after 2pm is a definite No No for me as they keep me awake and with very vivid nightmares especially Sudafed with Guaifenesin... absolute devil of a drug!
It would be interesting to post this in R&S and see what replies you get there :-)
Dee, this can also be a menopause symptom...at least it was for me.
