Hi everyone, Happy Easter btw. Ok for weeks now I’ve had a permanent pain in what I can only describe as my chest, right below my bust. It feel like I have a belt strapped round my chest and every time I breath in deeply it feels like the belt is being tightened. I do have asthma, which is controlled with inhalers and I can’t remember the last time I had an attack - years ago probably. I’ve recently had a problem with a racing heartbeat which comes on and off. Doctor sent me for ECG and to wear heart monitor for 24 hours but never ever gave me the results of either, despite me asking . I cannot get doctors appointment so went to local walk in centre and saw a doctor who was totally not interested in what I was saying and frankly looked bored out of her mind. I’m not in agony, but it’s just really uncomfortable. Any ideas what it is??
Don't dismiss anxiety completely - it doesn't necessarily mean you spend your time feeling anxious or depressed, it can manifest in all sorts of physical aches and pains, chest tightness being one.
I had really bad permanent chest pain with occasional heart racing, which showed up as nothing physical on an ecg. It was diagnosed as anxiety and I was given Beta blockers for 2 weeks and then to continue only when necessary. I did not feel at all depressed or anxious myself- that often isn't the case- but the physical symptoms were still there and it did treat it successfully. I agree that it seems highly likely to me xx
Woofgang beat me to it.
Sounds like it could be costochondritis. I have suffered from it for years. It’s incredibly uncomfortable, to the point that I've had to wear unflattering non wired bras for the past 7 years.
...if not that, maybe a little bit of aerobic excercise might be the answer: start with some brisk walking, a mile or so every couple of days, swimming next or cycling.
