Persistent Ab Spammers
8 Answers
Well this morning's watch spammer doesn't seem to be giving up. You think by now these spammers would realise the posts get zapped almost immediately so I wonder why they keep on trying. Maybe even if it only survives for a second it's created some sort of imprint on the web. But some, like thes watch ones, seem pointless as there isn't even a link or company/seller mentioned. Can anyone see the point?

There's a lot of 2-part spam around (or there would be if the moderators weren't watching out for it). The spammers know that a question with a link in it is likely to get picked up quickly as spam (particularly on websites using automatic spam filters), so they either post a question which asks for a recommendation or simply post almost anything at all. Then, using a different name, they post their link later on (hoping that, because it's in an answer rather than in a question, it won't be picked up by automatic spam filters).
Quite often the spammers probably couldn't care less if nobody ever clicks on their links. They simply know that having lots of links to a site dotted around the web gets it higher up the Google rankings, meaning that more people are likely to find the site later on.
