Got the username 'Hemlock' and enquiring about how much surgical spirit can kill you. Rather worrying.

//The exact composition of surgical spirit does vary between manufacturers and countries, but generally it is a mixture of about 95% industrial methylated spirits (about 95% ethanol, about 5% methanol along with other additives), 2.5% castor oil, 0.5% methyl salicylate and 2% diethyl phthalate.

Methanol is extremely toxic to humans when taken by mouth, inhalation or injection. Some of the other additives in the industrial methylated spirits are also toxic along with the methyl salicylate. Diethyl phthalate is a dangerous irritant.

So yes, ingestion of surgical spirit by any of the routes discussed above is harmful to humans. The only acceptable method of using it is by application to the skin as per the instructions on the bottle.//

It might possibly kill you but it's far more likely to make you vomit violently, make you feel extremely ill and possibly permanently damage your eyesight if you survive. Talking is a much better option.
