Acriflavin was the stuff... but Zambuck or wintergreen ointment was another go to in our house along with germolene. The acriflavin was only used by the school.
There was another remedy - golden eye ointment for sties, and yellow bazelican basselican I don’t know how it was spelt but this was used on splinters to “draw them out”. By the way my mother used to give me Vicks on a spoon with sugar to “ grease my tubes” when I had a cold. It’s a wonder I am still alive.
