I can't as I had transfusions during the time when the screening wasn't as good, I don't know if the partner of a homosexual is still excluded too although after 33 years I don't think my ex husband should be an impediment.
I did until I was put on a load of meds. 75 in total.
I did but my blood pressure tends to be too low.

I'll do it as long as I can, I'm o negative so can donate to anyone, so I'm always treated like royalty when i go in! They had a problem finding a vein this time, but I had three different people try and then the supervisor, they werent going to let me go home until they'd got my blood!!

Also found out that although everyone now needs an appointment to give blood, if you;re o neg you can just turn up and they wont turn you away even if they're fully booked!
I was up to 44 donations when I had an epileptic seizure. Now on medication that works, but I can't go back to being a blood donor until I have gone a full year with no problems.
^ I want to go back to being a donor so I can get my Gold badge for 50 donations. I have the Bronze & Silver ones. I'm 68 in January so there is still time (just)

Eddie, that's amazing that you're nearly at 50! I hope you go a year without any issue so you can achieve it :-)
I’d love to but live in Ireland and due to the risk of variant cjd between 1980 and 1996 they won’t have it! Can’t they just test me for this and if clear let me start donating. I’m O neg as well so they’re crying out for it
Sorry should have said due to the risk of cjd for living in the UK between those years
I'm B blood type.
i'd like to but im not allowed :-(
The last time I went, I was about to get needled up when I said I needed to blow my nose. You'd have thought I'd said I want to kill babies from the stern reaction I got from the nurse. "If we gave your blood taken when you've had a cold, it could seriously harm a vulnerable person."
I had to leave feeling extremely guilty and terrible. I didn't even have a cold. Just a sniffle.
I do, and they like my blood. I am O positive, but I'm a rare sub group of rhesus positive called RO.

I do laugh because after sticking all the labels with bar codes on, they scribble RO on a brown luggage tag and tie it on.
Used to until I got to age 65.Like gingejbe I am Group AB but negative and I was always welcomed.
I didn't know what blood group I was until I gave blood and they wrote to me and told me.
Gingejbee, have you thought about this:-

There is a special need for AB Plasma. In addition to being the most rare blood type, AB Plasma is universal and can be used for all patients regardless of their blood type.
Danny, you don't have to stop at 65. Regular donors can keep on giving.
I went regularly until I had a stroke in 2000 after which I was on that much medication I had to stop.I was really upset as I was one donation short of my 75th
Hopkirk, Thanks, that was 20 years ago and I am now on medication which would prevent me re-starting as a blood donor.
I think you all should give yourself a round of applause. Altruism in action.
I stopped donating some years ago when tattoos were considered too much of a risk.
