I'm considering buying a short course of these to see me over my holiday as I"ve just finished a short course prescribed by a dermatologist. They're the only thing that's helped my hands since February. The ingredients are the same but I've never done this before. I can't get to see GP before my holidays. Dare I?

Only you know if you dare, would you be buying from the internet?

The initial course would have been to see what if any improvements they had, the next step would be to find a maintenance dose I presume,so you are taking chances even if only short term.

Can you not get a phone appointment?
Beware of buying medication on the internet. There are plenty of fake drugs about.

It's desperation really. I know I should be wary. I'm just so relieved after so much pain. I don't know if I can get a telephone appt. Mamya, I didn't know there was such a thing! I'll give it a go tomorrow. Thank you both x
Can you not phone or email the dermatologist and get advice? Steroids are one of those things where more does not necessarily mean better.
High doses of steroids should not be taken over a long period of time, unless have specific conditions. They have horrible side effects . As a severe asthmatic, before I was put on a daily maintenance dose, I never took prednisone for more than 10 days. To go on a daily dose you need to see a hospital consultant, because a GP is not allowed to prescribe this. That's how careful you have to be with steroids. Anyway, the dose you have taken should have a lasting effect for some while without you taking any more. That's how they work with asthma. I agree about getting a phone appointment to ask for your prescription to be renewed, but if the doctor says no, I WOULD NOT PURCHASE THEM OVER THE INTERNET.

Thank you -I feel suitably warned off. Before this I would never have dreamed of doing such a thing. I'll definitely try and contact both the gp and dermatologist tomorrow. Fingers crossed (while I can) .
You can use hydrocortisone cream though if that helps it might extend the period of relief. You can buy it from the pharmacy. I have major problems with itching to the point where I scratch til I bleed. One thing I found works is a cream called Eurax, but only if I put it on as soon as the itching starts. My itch is stress related it started up again when my husband's cancer came back. L
I must say I wouldnt take pred without telling or consulting a doctor - but you are in charge of yourself

you're consulting us - which isnt a good second best

my view is - two short courses doesnt make another short course - it makes a longer course which your doctors are trying to avoid ....you havent told us what the dose was -

I was taking under prescription 90mg a day for five days and could nt wait to finish - hallucinating and sleepless on days 3, 4 and 5 ....

as eever the choice is yours
Morning, thank you for your replies (I'm at work now, which explains the slightly different name and no yellow box). No steroid cream or ointment has worked yet I'm afraid. I'm going to hope that the effect of the tablets will last a little while rather than it all starting up again today. I'm also going to ring the GP for a telephone appt. I'm just sick of the pain and misery! x
