I have been having various tests. Cancer and Crohn's have been ruled out. Now I know I should have noticed the information on this report earlier.....I'm having a sort out of paperwork today.

I have a Gastroscopy Report (5th April) which reads: Specimens: 6x biopsy. Result of unrease test proved negative for Helicobacter pylori.

This was followed a couple of weeks later by a letter saying that as I have proved positive for
H.pylori I must see my G.P. for a course of two antibiotics....I know...I should have noticed the difference... :-(
My G.P. disagreed with the diagnosis for my symptoms and the treatment, as did I, so I went back to the consultant. He doesn't want to know any more until I have taken the antibiotics. I won't.

Now I know I need to get this straightened out with the consultant but.....

I have no upper gastric problems....no heartburn, indigestion....nothing at all.
Problems are lower GI tract and all the research I am doing on H.pylori doesn't fit in at all with my symptoms....which I'm not posting here!

If this makes sense I would appreciate your thoughts.....Gx

Probably a silly question, but have you ruled out a dairy allergy? Two people I know had the same symptoms as you - rush to the loo frequently and they have both stopped eating/drinking anything to do with dairy products and have noticed a big improvement. Just a thought.
Two steps at a time, running? Perhaps it's too much exercise ha ha!
Gness, I was prescribed the two antibiotics and they did clear the H-pylori.

Hmmm.....not considered that, Helly but may have to, thank you...x

Thanks, Milo....interesting....my GP said it rarely works which was another reason not to take them.....but anyway....I need to know negative or positive....... thank you.x
With the frequency and urgency, if also very loose/watery, have they considered Bile Acid Malabsorption?
gness - you are suffering with the ailment - just give the antibiotics a go and take it from there -

That hasn't been mentioned, Eve so thank you...I'll have a look...x

Conne.....I know that I don't have what he has prescribed the antibiotics for and I know the side effects they can have so there is no way I would take them unless I was convinced they will work.....and even then I would weigh up the pros and cons...... xxx
I can really understand your reluctance to take the antibiotics, particularly as you haven't got a definite diagnosis. I wasn't keen on taking such a strong dose but the effects of the H-pylori were so uncomfortable that I felt for me the pros outweighed the cons. It's also interesting that your GP said it rarely works as I wasn't given that information. I think I would have been even more reluctant to take them but fortunately they did work for me.
H Pylori has been indicated in heard disease so if I had been told that I had that in my system, I would take the antibiotics anyway, regardless of any GI problems
My sympathies to you, gness, you seem to have been having a very rough time. This thread caught my eye because a week on Wed I have to have a gastroscopy and a colonoscopy on the same afternoon. To be honest, I'm dreading the semi-fasting and heavy laxatives beforehand more than the procedures themselves, as I think I have a pretty high uncomfortable/pain threshold (some horrible dental moments in the past) but I hope the sedation is good and strong!

It's cheered me that others ABers have had to go through this, as it's been getting me down recently. Very easy to catastrophise things when on one's own...
*heart*
goalie, get in acres of the softest loo roll your system can handle (your sewerage system rather than your own). Wet wipes if you like and don't worry about the fatbergs. The northbound oscopies I've had were no problem but the gastro one I hated.
Thanks, jno. Making a list of supplies and meals....

Milo....The GP told me that if he tested everyone in his building half would show positive and if all took the antibiotics only about 2 out of 10 would benefit....so you were fortunate it seems.... And as you say....first step is a definite result one way or the other....
But I have two results, 237....one positive and one negative....and what I really want is a solution to the problem that is being a bother...x

In truth, GG neither procedure was too bad but I do have the ability to take myself off somewhere else in my mind until it's over.....
I had a spray for my throat but no sedation....and you have to keep your shoes on.....no idea why really....
I didn't mind the fasting.....I tend to eat a little when I want as a rule as it is.....The laxatives were strong but not nearly as bad as I imagined.....I already have a little library in my bathroom and it's quite nice to shut the door and settle down for a good read....
Maybe it's a case of no sense no pain.....but it wasn't nearly as bad as I had been led to believe...
You can stay for tea and biscuits but Aldi had a wool sale I wanted to get to....
Hope all goes well with your tests and the results are fine.....Gx
Thanks, g. I shall be hoping for a soft dreamy state from the sedative and then wish myself onto the lovely beach on the Isla da Tavira, with the sound of the rollers breaking, and a cold beer just within reach....
I can understand your apprehension gg, but I think you will manage just fine. Take any sedation offered.

That's it, GG...just drift off there and you won't want them to finish!... :-)
Sure will, anne. Saw Dr Xander van Tulliken having a colonoscopy the other evening on 'The Truth about Carbs' and he was only taking gas and air, and was chatting merrily to the very nice oldish Scottish guy wielding the shuftyscope. Didn't look in any discomfort at all, which cheered me
Shuftyscope, great name -+)
