......t'other day. I knew what it was about cos I'm always late paying the bill. Anyway, someone called who said his name was Afzal. He asked if my name was Mr. Clarion and was I the bill payer. I said yes to both questions. He then asked for confirmation of that by asking for my password. I said I'm not giving you my password as you could be anybody. He said I'll give you my phone number here, and you can ring me back. What?! I said no chance. That's one thing people are advised not to do. I said he should be answering MY security questions, not me divulging my security information to anyone who calls and says they're from British Gas, at which point he hung up.

God they're everywhere! Can't be too careful these days. Glad you were smart enough to see through it!
You could have just Googled BG's number. You sounded rude.
Sounding rude was the least of his worries I'd have thought. Well done, 10ClarionSt.

You sound presumtious, ummm.

presumptious ^^^^

presumptuous ^^ :o)
LOL....I didn't think that you were rude, I thought that you handled the situation well.

Anyway, I'm always wary of receiving cold calls from anyone. If they have my security information, and they are who they say they are, they should be able to answer MY security questions, shouldn't they? What's wrong with that?
Well done!
Those darned fraudsters attempting to steal all that ......er.......gas....out of your account.

Still, at least you've swerved their nagging until such a time as you are prepared to pay the money you owe.
I’m afraid I have no compunction about being rude. Usually you are asked for a password when you ring them. Not when they ring you. Does seem odd.

Thanks folks. Ummm, don't just take their word for it. Looking after your information is very important. Sorry if I sound patronizing, but people can't be too careful, so don't you be. I care, don'tchano?
What security questions? What could possibly need to know from someone working in customer service?
The real people don't normally see the password, just two letters that the computer asks for.

Thanks go to the saintly, precious snowflake call jackthehat, yer know, the one that has the username of a gangland thug. Hows that for a contradiction?
10ClarionSt, Nothing is wrong with it. The next thing would likely have been him asking for your bank details in order to take the amount owing. I wouldn’t have indulged him either. You were wise to be cautious. (Ever thought of setting up a Direct Debit to pay your bills?).
Question Author
Ummm, I would say you are a good target for a phone scam. You seem to believe that the person on the phone is who they say they are. I just want them to prove that. What's wrong with that? They want me to do that don't they? Why shouldn't I want the same thing?
Oh, dear.....is that the best you can do? LoL
Question Author
About what?
Question Author
Why would you want the username of a gangland thug? Was he your hero? A relative?
