I never do - does anyone?

Is it really necessary or is it just a way to get you to use more shampoo?

the only time i ever do it is if i have a lot of styling products in my hair or if my hair feels particularly greasy, most hair dressers (including famous ones who have their own brands) will say it is unecessary unless you feel its needed.

I usually do unless I'm running late - i find it makes my hair feel cleaner and lasts longer.

They always do it in salons so i think it can't be completely about buying more shampoo

I wash my hair every day in the shower (I know people say it's not good to) so I only shampoo the once.

Why isnt it good to wash it everyday Jules? if i dont it just goes greasy, or is it just cos its in a shower?

It is absolutely a way of getting you to use more product.

Slightly different, but connected - do you remember the 'Plink Plink, Fizz Fizz' alka seltza (I think) advert? That planted a seed in people's heads that they needed to take two pills and consumption rocketed.

i always shampoo twice and then slap on loads of conditioner for about 20 minutes.
Ali - I seem to remember reading that you shouldn't wash your hair every day as it makes the sebaceous glands work harder, they produce more oils and that makes your hair greasier so creating a vicious circle

AH that does make sense but i cant bear (grrr) to have greasy hair, it looks awful!

my friend also says you shouldnt condition everyday but i do, if i dont my hair isnt as easy to brush and gets more knots

Another reason you shouldn't wash your hair every day is that it tends to take the natural shine away. All the people I know who do it seem to have very dull hair. I shampoo twice every once in a while just because I think it makes my hair softer, you can definitely notice the difference. But I wouldn't do it every time!!
Also if you wash your hair every day it gets used to it and then needs washed every day. You can "train" it to last 2 or 3 or probably even more days (although i've never tried!)

if you want to wash your hair less frequently to make it more shiny naturally but can't stand the initial grease ball look, you can comb a tiny bit of talc through your hair and then brush well, or you can also use bicarbonate of soda I believe in the same way. It soaks up the grease and kinda dry cleans your hair and is not harsh at all.

Remember though, over wahsing does stimultate the glands to produce more grease, but so does constant brushing aswel.

My granny swore by 100 strokes a night and tidy up in the morning. She had lovely hair right up till she died

I might try and train it to last but must disagree that washing it everyday makes it dull, i get compliments all the time from people i do and dont know, saying that my hair always looks shiny and healthy. i dont mean to blow my own trumpet or anything.

it could be that i dont use products or straightners and very very rarely use the hair dryer

Nobody seems to see a wonderful product called 'Batiste' which you get in Boots. You spray it in your hair and then brush out and hey presto all the grease is gone and it looks as if you have washed it. Don't use it all the time but its great if you have had your hair done and you go on holiday and you can make your style last several days longer, or if you are going out unexpectedly.
Thank you lady gold ill have to have a look for that thats a great idea
I find that dry shampoo, batiste etc, makes my hair look clean but it still feels greasy so i dont feel good about myself! I always feel that i need to wash my hair after using it!
