Its just a thought
A couple of night ago, I went to my friends house for tea. My friend is a retired Pastor. He (and his wife) are Christians of the born again variety, evangelical, biblical literalists. We ate tea, spent some time in his (rather large) garden and I played footie with his grand kids. Afterwards we all had a game of Yahtzee followed by a cup of tea and a chat about current politics, healthy eating regimes and told a few jokes. He then gave me a lift home.
Not once did he preach to me or shove the Bible (or You Tube vids) down my throat. It was simply a nice catching up on each others news and enjoying each others company. We do this on a monthly basis.
He knows that I am an atheist, I know that he is a Christian. No problem.
Very occasionally we *might* exchange thought re: religion (more often than not when *I* bring the subject up) and occasionally both he and his wife will let slip that they both pray for me. Ive got no problem with some one showing some kindness in the way that they see fit!
That is so different to some who only wish to impose their own views on you and denigrate yours.
I wish more Christians had their attitude.
//(I will try to find your coach trip thread to ask whether you enjoyed Blackpool) //
Don't bother ff, Truth be told it was a bit pants, ive got a gobby son and the coach was 1/2 late starting back home. Could have done better as the old school reports used to say. ;-)
" Isn`t that what christian spirit is all about "
A few words missing there.
Isn't that what christian spirit is supposed to be all about.
Invariably with a lot of christian's I know, the spirit of goodwill is sadly lacking.
Really bugs me how the religionist start spouting off about how if you don't accept Jesus then you are going to burn in hell.
I mean, how can I refuse such love?? Worship me or I am going to torture you (and for eternity)??
Sounds like a good friend Nailit.
I post threads that in my opinion are interesting, but never knowingly or deliberately do or say anything to stuff my beliefs down anybody's throat.
However, if I do unwittingly fall into that category, then I most sincerely apologise to anybody offended, especially you Nailit.
Your friend behave the way that one would expect from every friend as well as the way one would expect from someone with a strong religious belief .... those that ram their beliefs down your throat and who do not listen are really not behaving as, for example, a good christian is expected to.
One of my best friends is the vicar of our local church but she is never one to ‘preach’. When my family was going through a particularly difficult period she had her congregation praying for us at every service. I told her it wouldn’t work ….
