Define Middle-Aged ?

In my recent post about the Edinburgh Fringe jokes, one referred to Donald Trump as middle-aged. He's 72.

What is your definition of middle age ? Is it definable by number, or is it more of an attitude to life ?

I would say an attitude to life. If you half a normal lifespan you would arrive at somewhere between 35 and 40.

Middle-aged is a state of mind - I know 20 year olds who are middle-aged and 70 year olds ditto.

I tend to think of anyond over the age of about 50-55 as being 'old'. So I guess for me middle age is quite a narrow window!

I always think 45-65 ish for middle aged, which is obviously not the middle!

I'd define 'middle-aged' simply as "a distant memory" ;-)

Otherwise though, I'd go for around 35 to about 55.

I hit 67 July just gone, I regard myself as Middle-aged, still fit
and active, with an enquiring mind and enjoy life to the full.

I've never really thought to define it, I may use the term occasionally to indicate I'd been speaking with someone who was neither very young or very old.

I think anyone under 40 described as middle aged would be rightly miffed.

Well my 86 year old mother won't live in sheltered housing because it is full of old people....... I feel for women it's when you wake up one day and know what to do with those long scarves and for men it's when they consider a slipover sleeveless jumper a nice addition cos it keeps your back warm

It does seem common for old people to immediately start denying they are old. I hope that I won't be so shy about my age, but who knows? :)

given that youth seems to extend to about 40 these days, I suppose middle age starts then and goes to about 90. Everyone seems to claim eternal youth. But I can't say I feel in the least middle aged, I'm old.
