We called a local electrical repair-man out 2 days ago to fix our smoking oven. Won't go into it, but daughter set it on grill instead of oven and there was a bit of fat stuck up there and difficult to clean properly. I never ever put grill on because of this! Anyway, the repair man said the best thing to do it let it burn itself off. So we just stood there letting it burn off, with all doors and windows open. After a while, he said to me, "Why dont you make yourself a cup of tea while we wait and see what happens" lol! Talk about a hint!...I said I was sorry, did he want tea or coffee? " Oh, I'd love a cup of tea" So I promptly made him one with a few biscuits. It just makes me smile. Have you ever had a strong hint for something??

Yes, heard that one Georgiesmum! I think he was just too polite to directly ask. I usually ask them if they'd like a cup of tea/ coffee. He was such a chatter box, it went out of my head! Lol..
oo yeah
do you come from far shores?
what's yours? (what shores)
oh, a gin and tonic please

I remember age 7 my sister after the long usual girlie spiel said coldly - can't you take a hint? - along with a 9 y o girlie look-to-kill

and I regret I returned an AB standard: wosser a hint den? [foo]
and THEN I met hint a year or so later in a text book and thought: 'Christ two years later and I still dont know what it means'

Round here they don't mess about - 'Any chance of a brew love, I'm parched'.

I had an electrician here yesterday (yay,I have heat!) he didn't want a cuppa though.
oop t' Norf
I routinely ask if they want tea
if there is anyone else in the house - there is usually a shout of
No No Don't !

Surly not that bad Peter??
I do this sometimes when i'm feeling a bit light headed at work, mainly for the sugar ;)

I think it's harmless, as long as they are not rude! If you don't get the hint then they shouldn't act any further on it.

I felt awful, because I usually get in there first and ask. It was around midday, so I expect he was feeling a bit jaded...
I'm sure he'd have been alright ;) Seems like it was some cheeky banter
Question Author
He was actually very serious....
Now that really was a hint, still at least you could smile about it.
