Remembrance Sunday
7 Answers
This Sunday I shall be marching past The Cenotaph in London at the RBL Festival of Remembrance along with thousands of others, one of which will be our site favourite, Baldric, who is a former Royal Marine. This will be followed by another march called The Peoples' Procession, which will also file past the Cenotaph. Maybe, at venue near you, you will be able to see a lone piper at 6 a.m. on the 11th, playing a tune called Battle's O'er. That will happen at 2,000 venues across the UK. I will be remembering all those lost on HM Ships Glorious, Ardent and Acasta on June 8th 1940, in addition to all those lost in war.
There are no roses on a sailors' grave
No flowers lay at their head
A rusting hulk is their tombstone
Afast on the ocean bed, but
They shall not grow old
As we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them
We will remember them

Afast on the ocean bed, but

I’ll put on my beret, blazer, regimental tie and medals and will attend the service of remembrance at our local war memorial, as I have done every years since leaving HM Forces.
Thereafter, I’ll attend the war memorial club where we’ll all(metaphorically) pull up a sandbag, swing the lights and exchange stories whilst reminiscing on the great times we had.
