Mrs B is taking antibiotic eye drops after cataract surgery. She is very sleepy, and Dr Google says this can be a side effect of the drops, if rare.

Any experience of similar reactions?

Other Half had both eyes done three weeks and two weeks ago.

She was on OftaQuix

Levofloxin 5mg/ml taken 4 drops per day for 2 weeks. She's now finished the course.

Prescribed by Moorfields head of cataracts, Vincenzo Maurino.

No drowsiness reported
Never heard of such a systemic effect from antibiotic eye drops.
Just a thought, but OH was also on steroids ( and still is)

She started on Dexamethasone, but Doc then added Yellox (bromfenac sodium sesquihydrate). Not sure why, but it appears to be an anti-inflammatory. There is no inflammation.

No idea if that might cause drowsiness.

Are you prepared to say what medication she is on?

Of course! Can’t see that as being a State Secret. She’s sweeping up leaves, so I’ll ask when she comes back...
Question Author
chlorom phenicol antibiotic
maxidex anti inflammatory

Could the combination be doing it?
Used Chloramphenicol quite a few times and no tiredness, just the nasty taste - if her drowsiness is pronounced then maybe a quick call tomorrow to check if all is well.
cataract surgery on both eyes followed by eyedrops. No drowsiness
Maxidex is a steroid.....that shouldn't account for drowsiness.
I agree with mamya seek advice from a professional tomorrow if still concerned
Yes get it checked but it may be something as simple as a post stress reaction. Going to the dentist even for just a check up makes me very tired

Thanks to all. We’ll get it checked; she has been in the wars recently.
