Replacing A Sealed Charger Type Plug With A Normal Standard One

i have an electric razor and the charger has stopped working.

its the plug type, not one with a separate box along the lead
the plug is quite heavy so i assume it not just a plug inside - there is no way to open this plug at all
it is only 2.5v
the wire is grey and is 2 thin ones stuck together - but the amount of copper wire inside each is much less then would usually be put into a standard 3 pin - the blue/brow/yellow-green ones

can i rewire it into a standard 3 pin? with a 3 amp fuse?

or is this a no-no?

i dismantled a sealed plug from another old charger i had, just to look inside - and it had a circuit board etc inside - i assume that is the same for this plug too?

not a problem buying a new one if need be, just though id see if this was something that could be done

I would think the plug is the same, so no, you can't replace it with an ordinary plug. It would almost certainly damage your razor.

The "plug" has the charger circuit built into it, hence the 2.5V output. Replacing it with a convention plug will wreck your razor; don't do it.

Replacing the charger plug with a standard plug would be very dangerous and against all legislation. There is no way cable rated at 2.5 V could take 240 V it would probably catch fire and the razor would blow up. Throw it away!!!

The item you refer to is a power supply which converts 230V AC to 2.5V DC. I had a similar problem and just bought a multi voltage one for about £10.00. It depends on the the connection to the razor. You can get them with multi adapters, but make sure you get the polarity right when you first use it. Other than look, look for charger on Amazon, naming your specific brand and model of razor, eg charger for Braun MS1 shaver.

Using it set at 3.0V won't do any damage, but make sure you get one which can provide the same current or more as your existing one. It should have this marked on it eg Input 230V AC output 2.5V DC 500mA
